Leeds Philosophical and Literary Society has for over 50 years helped to publish books and pamphlets on a wide range of topics covering the arts and sciences. We have published some books ourselves and have also given grants to authors to assist with the publication of their research or collaborative work.
Our publications are usually by authorities in a particular academic field, with limited print runs. Once sold these publications are no longer available for professionals, students and independent researchers. However, they are often still in demand. We were contacted by a scholar at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, USA who requested a copy of a paper concerning the structure of Insulin published in the Leeds Philosophical and Literary Society Proceedings of 1928. We could produce a copy for the researcher, but it would be so much better if access was available on our website.
To remedy this, we aim to gradually digitise our publications so that they are available to a much wider audience, free of charge to our members and at a low cost to other people. But we do need your help.
