Two dozen members of The Royal Philosophical Society of Glasgow are visiting Leeds in mid-May. As part of their experience, they want to hear about how the English planning system is involved in remaking a post-industrial city.
Martin Elliot, Head of Strategic Planning from 2019, was recently appointed to become the new Chief Planning Officer. So this is an excellent chance, as he takes up his new role, to hear directly from him about his ambitions and priorities, plus his thoughts on how the planners will work with other officers and partners in the city.
He will give a brief talk, followed by questions from geographer Rachael Unsworth about his vision for the city and how the planning system can influence regeneration outcomes.
Some LPLS members have already submitted a question to be put to Martin. Do get in touch with your question. There will also be an opportunity for questions from the floor – points that occur to you as the discussion unfolds.
After the talk there will be a chance to chat with the Scottish visitors in the bar area and to buy drinks.

Martin Elliot studied Geography at the University of Glasgow and did his post-graduate Town Planning degree at the University of Newcastle. His varied planning posts have all been in Yorkshire. He spent nearly 5 years in Leeds from 1999, returning in 2013 to lead the team supplying data and GIS mapping.
