Runners Up - by Keely, Blenheim primary school

Keely woke up one morning in “Only Girls World.” She stood in the sunlight, waiting for her shadow to appear. “How weird?” thought Keely. “Where has my shadow gone?” Zuzu replied—oh, by the way, Zuzu is a stuffed toy rabbit that could talk—”I think your shadow is lurking, hiding somewhere.” “Could be true,” said Keely.

They kept chatting about the shadow at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but none of them noticed two girls following them throughout the day until it was time to go to bed. The two girls were pretty; they shone very brightly like film lights, even in the dark. Their names were Brittany Shimmer and Julia Shine. Keely looked at them suspiciously. “Who are you and how did you get here?”

“Oh!” said Julia. “My name is Julia Shine and this is Brittany Shimmer,” she said, pointing at Brittany. “We got here by crocodile teleportation.”

“Crocodile teleportation?” questioned Keely. “What’s that?”

“Crocodile teleportation is a kind of teleportation that requires a crocodile and a stick,” Julia answered.

Brittany added, “You have to wait until a crocodile’s jaw is perpendicular, then poke it with a stick. Think of the place you want to go, and it will teleport you straight to where you want to be in a split second.”

“Don’t poke it with a stick when its jaws are parallel (AKA closed), or you will be eaten by the crocodile!” said Julia.

“Okay…” said Zuzu.

“Oh, and the reason we came here is because we want to bring you your shadow,” said Brittany.

“Why was it missing?” asked Keely.

“Because it was asleep and couldn’t be bothered to wake up,” said Julia. “We had to lift it out of bed and bring it to you.”

“Here,” said Brittany, thrusting the shadow towards Keely. “Put it down before it takes over your entire body!”

“There we go!” said Julia. “Back to normal!”

So Keely and Zuzu said bye to the girls and drifted into a deep sleep.

The adventure doesn’t stop now, though! Wait for Book 2—coming out never! (Evil face)
